Abstract

In order to obtain data and information about the size of bigeye tuna ( Thunnus obesus) which caught by hand line in Malu-ku waters, a research was carried out in some coastal villages in Ambon region i.e. Hutumury, Nusalaut, Seri, Latuhalat, Ambalau and Kelang. Random sampling was done once a week in July to December 2009 by trained enumerators. Aspect observed was fish forked length (FL). The results showed that FL bigeye tunas which caught by tuna hand line in Maluku waters were varied during the study. Hand line was not suited to exploit bigeye tunas in August, September, October and November because many juvenile of bigeye tuna was caught in those months (Lc > Lm). Therefore, hand line was appro-priate for bigeye tunas on July and December.
